Shakespeare’s plays have lots of new vocabulary that students aged 9-12 rejoice in learning. And sometimes exploiting! “Floyd was five minutes late to class today. A plague upon thy house!” A 4th grade student from PS52, Staten Island, actually said that to me in my role as a teaching artist during the 1998-99 school year. The student was quite right. I was late. He was also correct in his use of “thy”, the possessive pronoun for your, which left me rejoicing in his ability to transfer knowledge. Over the next several weeks, I’ll be sharing downloadable and video resources for vocabulary appearing in the Stage It play editions. The first of these resources includes words from Staging Hamlet that begin with the letter A. It is accessible for free here.
